It's fashionable to have an
urali, originally meant as a cooking vessel, to fill it with water and float flowers in it. Here's mine. Usually it's dry, and heaped with used badminton shuttles; on Divali I put flowers and candles in it:

urali from Madurai, which looks exactly like the ones you see today:
