A European Traveller
(Thanks, Peter!) The New York Times has an article about a new show at Washington's Sackler Gallery: Encompassing the Globe: Portugal and the World in the 16th and 17 Centuries . The article includes a slide show, and the first picture in the slide show is the 17th century Mughal painting of a European traveller which I've been using as a kind of logo on this blog since it began:

That's great.
I had an "OMG, I know THAT picture," when I saw the article. "Hey! That's Nancy's blog pic!" Well, now I know where it comes from, thus ending yet another of life's mysteries... Had to reach out and share.

He is rather grand isn't he, and the background scene is wonderful too, it's a very satisfying picture.
I thought he looked Spanish/Portuguese too, but then again the other link that was sent to you said it's of a Dane. Looking carefully at the picture on NYT, the buildings in the background seem more from the north than of the south, more like a Pahari miniature in its use of color and perspective.
Well, makes you wonder who the mystery man is and where he was goind dressed as he was in such elaborate finery.
